The rate of fatal workplace injuries fell nationwide in 2011

Ohio residents know that the worst possible outcome of a workplace injury is death. In fact, some of our previous posts have reported on some very serious workplace injuries that have occurred in the state of Ohio this past year, in addition to a few very untimely and tragic deaths due to workplace accidents. However, the good news is that the U.S. Department of Labor has just released a report which shows that the number of workplace accidents resulting in death in 2011 actually decreased slightly from 2010.

Workplace accident leaves Ohio construction worker dead

Construction workers are particularly vulnerable during the months of summer and early fall when they are working on the dangerous highways of Ohio. Tragic workplace accidents can occur when motorists are not exercising the upmost caution as they approach a construction zone. This appears to be what happened recently when a 63-year-old construction worker was struck and killed by a motorist while working at an overpass construction zone in Avon, Ohio on I-90 Westbound.

"Thank you sir...may have some safety gear?"

VSSR rules are a subset of workers' compensation administrative code that covers particular employees, in particular industries, in particular circumstances. These rules are intended to promote the health and safety of these employees. Where an employer violates a rule and the violation gives rise to a compensable workplace injury, the injured worker is not only entitled to workers' compensation benefits but also to a VSSR award.

Ohio BWC will study workplace injuries

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has awarded the Ohio Bureau of Worker's Compensation a grant with the goal of increasing workplace safety. This grant of $117, 000 will allow Ohio to be included in gathering statewide and nationwide statistics on workplace injuries and illnesses.

Ohio dump truck driver dies in accident

The police in Sharonville, Ohio have reported the death of a 35-year-old dump truck driver who was killed when he apparently lost control of his vehicle near Reed Hartman Highway. It is not known whether the accident will be considered a workplace accident for purposes of compensation under the Ohio workers' compensation system.
