Ohio utility worker suffers fatal workplace accident

Some of our Columbus readers may have heard that a tragic accident occurred recently when two Ohio utility workers were working in the state of New York. The two men were employed by CTS Telecommunications, of Orrville, Ohio, and were apparently working on the shoulder of a road in New York when the tragic workplace accident occurred. According to reports, the two men, a 49-year-old from Crown City, Ohio, and a 26-year-old were standing near the arm of their bucket truck when a car veered onto the shoulder of the road and struck both men.

The employee from Crown City struck his head on the bucket of the truck after being thrown into it from the impact of the crash, and was later pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The other employee, who was reportedly found under the bucket after the crash, was transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital and is reported to have suffered internal injuries as a result of the accident.

A previous post detailed how, statistically, those workers who are employed in a field where they must engage in transportation are more likely than others to suffer workplace injuries. This is due to the high number of automobile accidents that occur daily on the roads of Ohio and throughout the country. Fortunately, the Ohio workers' compensation system is available to assist the victims of tragic accidents such as this one.

The immediate relatives of the employee who lost his life in this accident may be entitled to receive death benefits and reimbursement of funeral expenses by filing a claim. The man who was transported to the hospital with internal injuries may be able to seek reimbursement of medical expenses, ongoing medical treatment and monetary benefits while he is unable to work. He may also be eligible for additional benefits if he is left with any permanent injuries as a result of this horrible workplace accident.
