Workplace accident kills at least 40 in high rise building

Previous posts have reported on several tragic accidents that have occurred recently in Ohio in various industries. Even those who work in office buildings are not immune to tragedy. Recently, an explosion occurred in a 52-story high rise office building located in a busy commercial and residential zone of one of the one of the biggest cities in the world. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but it appears that it may have been an electrical problem in the building that sparked the explosion.

Unfortunately, it was reported that at least 40 of the more than 1,000 people who were working in the building died from the explosion and there are many who sustained serious injuries as well in this tragic workplace accident. Some people were also reportedly trapped by falling debris. Co-workers struggled to help those who were injured or trapped to escape the building.

In Ohio, anyone who suffers an injury while working is entitled to receive workers' compensation benefits. Injured parties may be entitled to receive medical treatment for their injuries, as well as other monetary benefits while they are unable to work. They may also be eligible to receive additional benefits if they are permanently impaired or disabled as a result of a workplace accident.

Likewise, the immediate relatives of any worker that dies as a result of a workplace accident may be entitled to receive dependent death benefits. These benefits include reimbursement for funeral and burial expenses, as well as financial compensation for the loss of a loved one.

Although this tragic event is an uncommon occurrence, thousands of Ohio office workers suffer other types of injuries while working, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, back, arm or leg injuries from falling or tripping while working, and many others. It is important to obtain as much information as possible in order to proceed in filing a claim for workers compensation as the law can be quite complex and difficult to navigate.
