Workplace accident at Ohio steel plant injures five

Ohio has several factories that provide much needed jobs to the area and much needed materials to the country as a whole. These factories would not function if it were not for their workers. As employees act as the heartbeat of these companies, employers should want to keep them as safe as possible.

While most employers put forth effort to achieve an entirely safe work environment, sometimes mistakes happen. Machinery may be improperly maintained, employees improperly trained, or working conditions improperly monitored. Any oversight regarding workplace safety can cause serious injuries or death, as can be seen by a recent fire at an Ohio steel plant.

The fire at the Republic Steel plant in Lorain occurred during the hot commissioning of the plant's operation. Officials say the reaction essentially created a massive blow torch that shot fire three stories high within the building. The fire was started when a heat source found the oxygen supply system for one of the plant's furnaces. While the investigation into the accident is ongoing, five workers were hospitalized as a result of the fire.

As can be seen by this instance, an unsafe working condition can leave a worker at risk of serious harm. When one is injured by a workplace accident, he or she may suffer physical harm that can be debilitating, emotional harm that may make going back to work difficult, and financial harm that might make paying for much needed medical care difficult.

Luckily, an Ohio attorney can assist an individual in filing his workers' compensation claim. In the event the claim is denied, the attorney may also be able to help challenge the denial. By attempting to show the accident occurred while within the employee's scope of employment, the attorney will do his or her best to help the injured worker recover his losses. Recoveries from a successful claim may include medical benefits and loss of wages. Then, hopefully, the worker will be able to pay his or her bills while obtaining the care needed to reach a full recovery.
