Ohio worker hospitalized after explosion at production plant

A worker was hospitalized after an explosion and accompanying fire broke out at a plant in Defiance, Ohio, late last month. According to the food-product company, the workers' injuries were not life-threatening.

It is not clear whether anyone else was injured in the explosion. The county sheriff's office has announced that two workers were injured, but the plant only commented on one victim.

The fire was may have been caused by a static-electricity spark. The plant sustained structural damage as well as minimal fire damage during the workplace accident, according to a news report.

The work of multiple fire crews, as well as a fire suppression system, were credited for the early control over the fire.

The workplace accident remains under investigation as do questions concerning the injured worker.

While the nature of the injuries caused by this explosion have not been reported, flash burns are common in these situations. Flash burns are painful injuries and may require a significant time away from work for a proper recovery.

If you have suffered workplace injuries, necessitating medical care and a loss of wages, be sure that you understand your rights. Your company may deny that your injuries were serious enough to merit workers' compensation benefits.  Although companies are required to maintain a high degree of responsibility in fostering safe working conditions, some do try to keep workers’ compensation claims to a minimum in the event of a workplace accident. They may sometimes question the validity of an injury claim, for example.

Medical care is expensive and missing days from work can also harm your financial standing. It is a good idea to consult an attorney for information regarding workers’ compensation issues when they arise.
