Ohio man killed, another injured in workplace accident

Working in dangerous environments such as near electrical equipment, or at elevated heights, can increase one's chances of being involved in a serious workplace accident. Those who earn a living in and around dangerous job sites such as these may face grave workplace injury concerns. Victims of such incidents, and their families, should be sure they understand their rights when it comes to lost wages, medical expenses and other damages in light of a workplace accident.

Recently the dangers of working on electrical power lines, high above the ground, came to light in a tragic accident that occurred in Lebanon, Ohio. Duke Energy workers were removing lines when the pole they were on fell. A split near the bottom of the pole caused the collapse, which plunged the workers more than 20 feet to the ground, according to a news report.

One worker was killed and another was injured and subsequently airlifted to a hospital.

Although in this case the broken utility pole seems to have been what caused the serious workplace accident, the victims and their families have a right to investigate all of the facts of the case to determine who is responsible and whether the tragedy could have been prevented. Regardless of fault, they may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits related to medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost wages and more.

Injured workers, and the loved ones of those who have lost their lives, are often wise to seek legal counsel following a workplace accident in order to ensure they understand their rights and legal options.
