Scaffolding collapse kills 3, death benefits may be possible

As some of our more regular followers know, we sometimes highlight news stories we think are applicable to our readers' situations. Though some of these news stories come from our own state, sometimes we like to point out stories from other states to show that it isn't just Ohioans who experience issues regarding unsafe working conditions and issues regarding workers' compensation claims.

Today we'd like to talk about the tragic construction accident that occurred out in North Carolina. Because the story is grabbing national news at this time, some of our Columbus readers may have already heard about it. For those who haven't, the accident killed three construction workers when a mast climber became detached from the side of a building, causing the men to fall nearly 200 feet to the ground below. A fourth worker was reported to have been injured in the accident and is said to be in fair condition at this time.

The reason we're highlighting this out-of-state case for our Ohio readers is to point out that loved ones do have the right to file for workers' compensation death benefits after a fatal work-related accident. As we explained in a post yesterday, a dependent, such as a spouse or child, may be eligible for these benefits. This means that if a similar construction accident were to occur here in our state, a victim's family may receive financial support that can range from lost wages to funeral expenses.

Losing a loved one in a fatal workplace accident can be downright devastating for the remaining family members. Grief can oftentimes cloud judgment, leaving a victim's family feeling overwhelmed and helpless. By seeking the help of a skilled lawyer though, such as those found here at The Bainbridge Firm, LLC, a victim's family can get the help they need to file for workers' compensation death benefits and get on the right path to moving past the tragedy before them.
