Ohio foundry fined by OSHA for noise exposure violations

Hazardous working conditions can be present in many workplace environments. Industrial plants, in particular, need to be monitored to ensure that proper precautions are in place to protect workers from suffering workplace injuries. Recently, an Ohio foundry was issued a number of citations following an Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspection, which was prompted by a complaint regarding over-exposure to noise above 85 decibels.

Ohio man injured in accidental shooting at gun show

Workplace injuries still a problem in coal mining industry

National statistics on deaths in coal mines in 2012 have just been released. Although the national death toll has declined slightly from 2011, and now stands at 19 coal mining deaths for 2012, the industry still has a long way to go toward improving workplace safety among its workers. While workplace injuries occur in all industries, coal mining is still one of the most dangerous occupations in the U.S.

Some recent posts here have discussed the tremendous hazards that Ohio transportation workers face. Those who work in the transportation industry are statistically more disposed to suffering from a workplace injury. This is due to the unsafe nature of our roads and highways. Recently, a 56-year-old Ohio man, who was driving a tractor trailer filled with a material used to produce asphalt, was killed as a result of a crash with another truck.

Some of our Columbus readers may have heard that a tragic accident occurred recently when two Ohio utility workers were working in the state of New York. The two men were employed by CTS Telecommunications, of Orrville, Ohio, and were apparently working on the shoulder of a road in New York when the tragic workplace accident occurred. According to reports, the two men, a 49-year-old from Crown City, Ohio, and a 26-year-old were standing near the arm of their bucket truck when a car veered onto the shoulder of the road and struck both men.
