Employee killed in accident at Ohio food processing plant

A tragic and fatal industrial accident recently occurred at a family-owned pasta manufacturing plant in Ohio. The company has been in business for over 50 years.

The initial 911 calls alerted emergency personnel that an employee had been caught in an extruder and possibly killed. Those fears were soon confirmed by the coroner’s office, which arrived to investigate the scene. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also came to the facility to investigate the accident.

A few hours after the accident, the company’s general manager released a statement that there had indeed been a fatal accident, which was still under investigation, and that the name of the victim was not being released until family could be notified.

When a worker is killed in an industrial accident, the worker’s family suffers tremendously. Not only are loved ones thrown into the tumultuous and difficult process of grieving, but they must also deal with the reality of the financial difficulties of losing a family breadwinner.

In most cases, a person’s ability to earn a living is his or her most valuable financial asset. Unfortunately, however, it is not an asset that can be passed on to provide for loved ones after death.

Although no amount of money can return a lost loved one, workers’ compensation laws in Ohio do make it possible to compensate families for their financial losses. This can provide grieving families with some peace of mind and stability for the future after losing a loved one in a workplace accident.
