What if I am Injured Performing A Community Service or Volunteering?

Revised Code § 2951.02(H) provides for community service as a condition of probation and as an alternative to other sanctions for conviction of a misdemeanor. A person performing community service as a condition of probation who receives no remuneration (pay) and who does not enter into a contract of hire does not qualify as an “employee” for purposes of receiving workers’ compensation. Under R.C. § 4123.03, however, a municipality may in its discretion extend coverage to such a person.
